The Annual Nordic Business Forum: Nation Branding - Dead or Alive? was held 1 March at The Southbank Centre. BICC partnered up with the Nordic Chambers in The UK at Southbank Centre. This year the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in UK organised the Event.
Join in on our 15th Golf Day - yet another year at The Belfry. The reason? The Belfry´s history which includes four times The Ryder Cup and multiple European tours along with being centrally located between the Humberside, Manchester and London and only a 15 minute drive from Birmingham airport. We find The Belfry being the perfect fit as a meeting place for the BICC's 15th Annual Golf Day.
The British-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce notes the announcement of the Icelandic Government that capital controls have been lifted with effect on Tuesday. The Government of Iceland today announces that capital controls on the country's individuals, firms, and pension funds have been lifted with effect on Tuesday. The removal of the capital controls, which stabilised the currency and economy during the country's unprecedented financial crash, represents the completion of Iceland's return to international financial markets.
The Annual General Meeting of the British-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce was held in Reykjavík 23 February 2017. Lárus Ásgeirsson, the Vice-Chairman of the British-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, opened the meeting and welcomed all particpants to the meeting. William Symington, Chairman of BICC, could not attend the meeting and therefore Lárus chaired the meeting and Hulda Bjarnadóttir, the Managing Director of BICC, was named secretary.
The Nordic Business Forum returns to London on the 1 March, this year to be hosted at the exciting Southbank Centre which for the whole of 2017 are celebrating Nordic Matters. The 2017 edition will address The Nation Branding - Dead or Alive?

About 30 people attended a CODEXIT meeting at Kvika Bank where Dr. Jón Þrándur discussed the possible effects of BREXIT on cod export from Iceland to Britain. In his lecture he talked about the complexity of BREXIT and the effects that are already visible in the cod markets in Britain. Í erindinu kom fram hvert BREXIT flækjustigið er og hvaða BREXIT áhrift eru þegar sjáanleg á þorskmörkuðum í Bretlandi. Dr. Jón Þrándur also pointed out possible ways for exporters and authorities in Iceland to respond to BREXIT.
Jón Stefánsson, Head of Research at Marko Partners, will discuss and present his view on how Brexit would impact the seafood exports from Iceland at a morning meeting on Wednesday 16. November from 8.30-10:00 AM.

As we received a very positive feedback on the location and the venue for 2015 BICC Golf Day we decided to continue with our annual golf day at the legendary Ryder Cup venue. People enjoyed a great day out on the PGA course where a memorable HIO was made. Followed by a great night with a dinner, good networking and nice talk. An agreement has been reached between Iceland, the Netherlands and Britain.
The Icelandic Depositors' and Investors' Guarantee Fund (DIGF) has reached an agreement with the Dutch central bank (DNB) and the British Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) over Icesave, the deposit accounts which were held at Landsbanki Íslands bank.
The British Icelandic Chamber of Commerce is organising an afternoon seminar- Interconnecting interests- examining the issues surrounding a potential submarine cable that might supply the UK and Europe with Icelandic green energy.
The seminar will be held at Hilton Reykjavik Nordica on September 22 and begins at 15.00.

On 27 November, Professor Gissurarson (University of Iceland) will discuss the economic history of Iceland since 1991 and economic relations between Iceland and the UK.
On September 23, the meeting "Iceland's Bright future" was held in Skinners Hall, London. The seminar took place just a few days after the state budget was presented to the Parliament in Reykjavik. It was a goodopportunity for the over 100 guests to gain insight into government policy for the coming years.
The Republic of Iceland is entering a new era of sustainable growth, but what are its options and what will the next years look like? Iceland has strong demographics and a fully funded pension system but capital controls are still in place. Let us consider what the future holds for the country after the lifting of capital controls.

The egg and bacon meeting of the Chamber of Commerce at Hilton Nordica in Reykjavik entitled “Icelandic energy to Britain?” received 150 participants. The interconnector is politically and economically one of the biggest decisions that Icelanders are faced with, says Paul Johnson from National Grid. Besides, he assured that the moment would be really appropriate for both governments to discuss and consider further preparations.

Lord Eatwell, Professor Emeritus John Eatwell, will present his independent report on macroeconomic balances and capital account liberalisation in Iceland. On the 1st of November 2013 the British-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce will organize a conference in the Bloomerg´s Conference Suite at Finsbury Square in London. The topics amongst others will be the UK-Iceland interconnector, data centres and geothermal energy. Further the conference will touch upon topics that relate to Iceland and the Arctic region such as oil exploration.
