Around 40 members of the British-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce gathered for the chamber’s annual general meeting held yesterday (October 31, 2013) at the Radisson Blu Portman hotel in London. William Symington, Chairman of the board, discussed last year’s operations and Kristín S. Hjálmtýsdóttir, Managing Director, introduced the financial statement for the period. The meeting moderator was Lárus S. Ásgeirsson.
The chairman thanked the outgoing board member Hjörvar Sæberg Högnason from Icelandair for his work on the board. New board members were elected; they are Isaac Kato from Verne Global and Andrés Jónsson from Icelandair. The list of board members can be accessed here. At the end of the meeting Heiðar Már Guðjónsson Introduced his new book “The Push for the Arctic”.
Earlier that day some of the BICC board members and other business representatives attended a seminar on “Iceland: 5 years after the perfect storm” hosted by Lord Mayor, Alderman Roger Gifford, at the Mansion House. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of Iceland, offered insights on development in Iceland over the last years and Már Guðmundsson, Governor of the Central Bank, discussed the state of the Icelandic economy. Cyrus Ardalan from Barclays introduced his analysis on the Icelandic economy, followed by a panel with CEO’s of Arion bank, Landsbankinn and Íslandsbanki as well as the Governor of the Central Bank.
